When your 2-year-old throws up at the hotel breakfast table, it’s not the best start to a day at Disneyland.
This past week we took the kids to Disney in Anaheim and we had a ton of fun. We also had some unexpected moments.
Like the breakfast table episode.
Sometimes no matter how much you prepare, no matter how much experience you have, life with kids is unpredictable and challenging.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
We had amazing moments with my parents along.
- My dad had a scooter and the older two kids squealed with joy every time they got to ride on it.
- Our oldest was on cloud 9 visiting Pixie Hollow and meeting THE Tinkerbell.
- Our middle kept excitedly shouting, “Wemember dat wide? Wemember dat wide?” even though she was 5 months old last time and she obviously didn’t “remember that ride.”
Then there were the crazier moments…
- The 2-year-old throwing up (she missed some of our park time after that– thankfully Grammy volunteered to stay home with her)
- Waiting in long lines only to have our oldest suddenly back out of a ride and have to be walked out… after we had already gotten out of line once so she could go potty.
- My husband’s shorts splitting down the middle back… 6 inches tall and about an inch wide, right in front of Ariel’s Grotto and about a thousand other park visitors.
The good things were intermixed with the difficulties (we had more of both but I’ll spare you the details).
The Truth About Fun Times
I’m not here to complain.
I know that we are extremely blessed to have been able to go to Disneyland in the first place. We are thankful to live within two hours of it (depending on traffic) and we did have a fantastic time.
The point is, life with kids is just plain challenging sometimes, no matter what kind of fun activities you’re doing.
The good stuff comes with hard stuff.
Excitement and disappointment ride on the same roller coaster. The one that you get to the front of the line and the ride breaks down.
Press on, Mama friend. Press on. The pain fades and the memories last… and they get funnier over time.
So press on.
